FIRST OFFENSE DUI

Birmingham, Michigan

I was so scared after I was arrested for my first DUI.  I knew people who this happened to and I never thought in a million years it would happen to me. When I was released from the Oakland County Jail the night after my arrest I had no idea what to do next.  It was not until I talked to a lawyer and he sent me to NextStepDUI that I finally began to breathe again.  I met with Dr. Gilbert and after being evaluated by him he developed my case management plan.  I was referred to an Educational Program at RCI and a MADD panel.  I followed his plan from day one and it was made very clear to me the seriousness of my actions.  I did not go to jail or lose my license after this first offense and I believe that the education I received has been a key factor in changing by behavior.

LICENSE RESTORATION

Warren, Michigan

I tried to get my license back several times without any success at the DAAD.  I felt my situation was hopeless and it was not until I overheard a fellow AA member talking about NextStepDUI that my life began to change.  I approached him after the meeting about his DAAD experience.  I was shocked when he told me he got his license back the first time, since I had heard it was impossible.  He told me all about Dr. Gilbert’s program and the importance of the substance abuse evaluation.  I made an appointment with Dr. Gilbert and the first thing we did was review my denial notices.  He agreed that the hearing officers past decisions to deny me a license seemed valid.  I asked him what to do next and it was his response that made me realize that this guy was a straight shooter.  He told me he would not charge me an evaluation fee until I made myself a good candidate.  I wished the other evaluators had told me this before wasting several years of my life and tons of money.  I left the NextStepDUI office finally knowing what was required to obtain a license and after following his therapeutic plan I am pleased to say I am now driving.

SECOND OFFENSE DUI

Westland, Michigan

When I was arrested for a second DUI within seven years, I found out very quickly from the sheriff who pulled me over that the consequences I could face may be huge.  I had no idea what to do next and I felt my life was ruined.  I knew someone from work who had an Interlock in their car and I thought they might be able to give me some advice.  The first thing he said to me was the only place to go is NextStepDUI.  He said people will tell you a million different things and most of the time they are wrong.  I listened to him and contacted NextStepDUI the next day.  I met with Dr. Gilbert and after taking some tests he developed a plan for me that he felt would be beneficial.  It was only after being evaluated by Dr. Gilbert that I realized I had a significant alcohol problem that had to be addressed.  I have been following his plan for over two years.  It was made very clear to me by the Judge at the sentencing that he was pleased by the responsible approach I had taken since my second arrest, which I am sure helped lessen my punishment.  I did receive a mandatory one year license revocation.  I am proud to say I got it back at the DAAD after one year.  The hearing officer said the basis for his decision was due in large part to my relapse prevention plan as well as my sobriety date.  This would never have happened without the ongoing guidance from NextStepDUI.

With Heartfelt Thanks,
